Tim Alberta, a journalist who covers the Evangelical movement, has posted on X/Twitter that people around Trump are grumbling that Vance is now the worst VP choice for a campaign against Harris, so maybe some movement there to replace him? GOP IN DISARRAY!
I’m not sure what you mean by my “field.” I’m a parish admin for an Episcopal church in Maryland. In a past life I used to do political fundraising and a small bit of analysis. I do dislike Vance because he’s a hypocrite — he knows Trump is dangerous AND HAS SAID SO but he’s signed on anyway because he’s wildly ambitious.
I dislike Vance’s argument in “Hillbilly Elegy” b/c he makes clear he received a leg up from the US military, but resents it and, like many who received a leg up from the govt, he wants to pull the ladder up behind him. That’s a black mark in my book.
Oh I misread your comment and thought you were the journalist. Sorry about that. Thank you for your answer. I learned a few things about Vance. I don't have Twitter x so I was curious about the Evangelical grumbling
Not sure it’s the Evangels who are grumbling. More like a circular firing squad? Alberta has written a book about the Evangelical movement — he’s a preacher’s kid — and it’s been well-reviewed. Evangelicals don’t come off well.
Thank you for beautifully articulating this new shocking expansion of HOPE. After 8 years of feeling bulldozed and mansplained I was unprepared for this overwhelming sense that we might not only prevail but do so in a boisterous and wondrous way. VP Harris is just 1 month older than 1. We face our 60th birthdays together and her candidacy has given me an unexpected thrill!
And re: the male lab mice thing. How is this still happening in 2024? What is it going to take for medical research to take female physiology and experiences into account. Ugh!
Re: the mice. I’ve worked in medical research for almost 40 years. First in academic labs working with mice to now as a data manager on major drug clinical trials. When I started out we worked on males for a couple of reasons. They are physiologically simpler, we needed a certain # of animals to be able to confirm that the differences we observed were not due to chance and research is expensive. So it made more sense back then to order 100 male rats instead of 100 male and 100 female rats. Add to that that academic research is still male dominated etc. However, by the time you get to human trials, not including women is just plain stupidity and shortsightedness. But it’s hard to get child bearing age women to participate because of the potential risk to a fetus. You can place all sorts of restrictions-they shouldn’t be pregnant at the start of the trial, they need to agree to abstain from sex, use birth control, be sterile or post menopausal etc., so as to eliminate risk. (Most studies I work on require regular pregnancy tests.) however there was a drug for HIV fairly recently that was only tested on individuals born male and they had to market it that way and my first thought was WTF? But it’s quite possible that it’s since been tested on people born female. Anyway I hope no one fell asleep while I nerded out.
Gabrielle - I hope you know what a balm your writing is for me & so many others. You articulated well my feelings of the past few days. “Hope scrolling” 🙏🇺🇸
Just saw that the big donors have pledged $150 million to Harris on top of the $90 million she raised from small donors, so in 48 hours, roughly, she’s raised a quarter of a billion dollars to spend over the next four months. Best start to any Presidential campaign in history.
Peter Theil is very dangerous. He's financially backing Vance so defacto VP. He wants NRx Dark Enlightenment: the collapse, not shut-down, of the US causing hyperinflation making money almost worthless. I would imagine that would effect food and medicine. He wants to nationalize the police and take over the media. Vance has said any left leaning businesses would be seized by the government.

Interesting field you cover. I'm curious why do they dislike Vance so much?

Feeling so hopeful about Kamala too!

I appreciate a nerdy explanation!!
Still feels frustrating to me that male always gets treated as the default setting.
They are simpler. 😜
That’s what I got out of that too 😉.
Oh my gosh that RS article gave me so much happiness LOL

That's such good new about the wealthy donors!!! I thought they were holding back bc they (wrongingly) didn't have faith in her.
Also very happy to be wrong.
The grassroots folks saw the risk you described and acted fast to SHUT IT DOWN.
Thank goodness for Democratic activists and delegates.

Thank you for all that you do Gabby! Some questions:
1. Will you consider putting out a coffee table book of the tall and small house? I’m dying to see it all together in book form.
2. Have you ever considered having your own podcast (you would be fantastic).
3. Have you ever considered running for office back in the states (would love to see it!)?
