Something Changed
Something shifted in my head when I woke up this morning and read reports that Kamala Harris has received more than enough pledged delegates to officially have the nomination. It was predicted it could happen as early as Wednesday, but instead it happened even more quickly, in about 24 hours, and was announced Monday. I wrote this when I woke up today:
I don’t think I understood how much I was still holding my breath, not daring to hope, thinking that the rug was about to be pulled out from beneath us. But I was wrong. And I’ve never been so happy to be wrong! Now that I know that she really does have the nomination, my whole brain shifted. All of sudden I started feeling really hopeful and could see clearly how 2024 won’t be a repeat of 2016. (In fact, I’ve already started working on a separate newsletter about that.)
On Threads, I saw someone post about how they are hope-scrolling instead of doom-scrolling, and I feel the same way.
A Family Pilgrimage
On Sunday (was it really just two days ago? it feels like a month has happened in the last 48 hours) our family arrived home from a walking pilgrimage to Mont St. Michel. This was the first pilgrimage I’ve ever been on and I’m still processing it. I started reporting about our experience on Instagram Stories if you’d like to see. So far, I’ve shared about Day One.
And yes, it’s the whole family! All nine of us. Everyone is home, gathered here in France for a couple of weeks, and it feels great. We’ll be doing some work on the Small House — all the kitchen appliances have arrived, and we found an armoire that we’re trying to figure out how to move up the tiny staircase, we’ll be spending a Saturday at the sea, and enjoying a lot of movie marathons. Also, my brother Salem sent us tickets to some olympic events and we’re SO excited to attend and take in all the festivities. Opening Ceremonies are this week!

In The News
Here are a few things I’ve been wanting to share with you.
In The Guardian — 75% of the drugs that extend lifespan in mice work only on males. They were developed on male mice then tested on both sexes, only to discover the female mice did not respond.
From CNN — Scientists have discovered “dark oxygen”, which is oxygen produced without organisms, being produced in the deep ocean, apparently by metallic nodules on the seafloor. The discovery raises new questions about the origins of life on Earth.
In Vanity Fair — Inside the New Right, Where Peter Thiel Is Placing His Biggest Bets. This article gives some insight into JD Vance who is part of this “new right”. From what I understand, they believe that the only way to achieve their goal of a libertarian/authoritarian government is through the complete collapse of the US government.
From The Conversation — HIV breakthrough: drug trial shows injection twice a year is 100% effective against infection.
In Rolling Stone — A group of hackers called “gay furry hackers” has hacked Project 2025’s website and obtained information about who is behind the plan for Trump’s second term. An estimated 80% of Project 2025 authors are Trump aides and advisors.
That’s all for now. I hope you are having a wonderful week. Feel free to comment on anything I mentioned above, or whatever is on your mind.
kisses,
Gabrielle
Thank you for beautifully articulating this new shocking expansion of HOPE. After 8 years of feeling bulldozed and mansplained I was unprepared for this overwhelming sense that we might not only prevail but do so in a boisterous and wondrous way. VP Harris is just 1 month older than 1. We face our 60th birthdays together and her candidacy has given me an unexpected thrill!
Tim Alberta, a journalist who covers the Evangelical movement, has posted on X/Twitter that people around Trump are grumbling that Vance is now the worst VP choice for a campaign against Harris, so maybe some movement there to replace him? GOP IN DISARRAY!
