These past couple posts about Trump, the election, etc. have been spot on. I appreciate you not pandering to people choosing willful ignorance and thinly veiled conservatism with their undecided nonsense. History will be the judge, as it was about the same kind of complicity the world experienced in the 30's and 40's. You'll be on the right side of that.
I am 75, and I remember when the US was more like center left and center right Republican and Democrat. My parents were Republican, I changed my allegiance to Democrat when I was a sophomore in high school, the year Barry Goldwater ran for president. I remember when Democrats and Republicans worked together on bills, each compromising to get the best result.
I am really terrified by this presidential election.
This is so well done and validates so much of the unrest I feel internally about the state of politics right now. I don’t think folks even realize how simple things like healthcare and education are basic human rights and here we are in the US fighting to keep those rights, important discussion women should be having with their providers without repercussion, and allow our children to read books that aren’t “banned.”
Thank you for voicing this so beautifully and helping me better understand the shift to the right and how it feels literally so “off center.”
Thank you for the chart. As I'm sure you can imagine living in France, it's so hard to explain to people from other countries how ass-backwards the US is when it comes to the health and welfare of women and children.
I love a simple chart. Thank you for breaking that down so clearly. And now I have a framework for articulating why exactly I’ve been so disappointed in the Dems. It feels like a supply and demand problem and they are happy to cater to a perceived demand for conservative policies. That said, WHY is there such a perceived demand for conservatism in the US? I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that polls are so close, that an entire half of polled voters are leaning Trump. If most people in the US are actually centrists then why isnt the Democratic strategy of shifting right in their policies capturing a bigger slice of the voter base?
Love the break down and totally agree. Let's get back to the center!
