Now Is The Time To Take Action
Hail storms, broken windows, and making protest signs for No Kings Day.
This afternoon, Oscar, Betty, Sophie (my niece who is staying with us), and I, ran an errand to buy poster-board. While we were out, the wildest storm I’ve ever experienced hit our town. Big pieces of hail crashed down, wild wind blew tons of trash into the street (it’s trash day, so everyone’s bags of trash were on the sidewalk), and the roads became rivers and lakes in an instant.
We weathered the worst of it at the poster board store, and when we eventually made it home, the garden looked like a cooler of ice cubes had been emptied out on the grass. I captured a bit of video so you can see.
I crossed the hail-strewn garden to the Small House to prep it for guests (who were scheduled to arrive a few hours later), and saw pieces of glass on the floor. I was confused — did someone break a drinking glass and not bother to clean it up? And then realized the hail had broken a window!
We’ll order some glass next week to fix it up, and in the meantime, we duct-taped on a patch to make sure the weather won’t bother our guests, so the broken window is not a big deal. I was just so surprised. Such an intense storm!
Once the Small House was prepped, Betty, Flora June, and I, used the poster board to make protest signs. We’re planning to participate in the No Kings protests tomorrow (June 14th) in any way we can. Here I am making a sign that says “Anti-Fasciste”:
There are several events in support of No Kings Day that are happening across Europe. We’re not sure if we will be close enough to join one of those, but even if we can’t I want to protest wherever we are. I read this thread yesterday:
I love this suggestion so much! I want to have signs with us in the car so that we can participate in the protests wherever we are. And I want to take lots of photos, so we can post images on social media, to lend our support to the protests digitally as well.
You can read about No Kings Day here. It’s reported that there are 2000 different No Kings events happening tomorrow all across the United States. You can find the event closest to you on this map.
I’m sure you’ve heard it’s Trump’s birthday tomorrow. Well, it turns out it’s my birthday too. (Yes, I sadly share a birthday with Donald.) And all I want for my birthday is 12 million people to get out there and protest the Trump regime!
So now I’d love to hear: What are your plans for taking action tomorrow?
kisses,
Gabrielle
I bought a five pack of gold paper crowns from the dollar store and wrote “No Kings” on the front of all of them and I intend to hand them out to friends I haven’t met yet tomorrow!
I have small children and am uncomfortable with protesting but I think we will need to make some yard art for tomorrow.
