In this newsletter: A quick report about my unusual work week, and a really good weekend link list, including articles about the definition of the word militia, the Amber Heard Trial, and an essay seriously considering if America should split into multiple countries.
Hi Gabrielle, thank you for sharing. I too watched the hearing but in my friend group that I reached out to , not so much sadly. I believe they think it’s just politics. It does seem to be coming to a head in the next couple years if we decide we can live together or not in this country. I have an EU passport though born and raised in CA. In your opinion, would my family be better off (my kids similar in age to yours so don’t know if they would follow) in the EU? Any books or anything that helped you explore this decision of yours to live there? Thx
I highly recommend the recent Armchair Expert interview with Ray Dalio accompanied by his video on the changing world order. They really blew my mind last week. Puts all the increasing turmoil in the US into context as an empire in decline.

Thanks, Gabrielle. Like most of us (well, all of us) who follow you, I am dumbfounded. Seriously dumbfounded although I shouldn't be, I guess. Am I nuts or is the USA in a downward spiral? I'm so grateful that I've moved from the United States. I'm sad that I have kids and grandkids there whose lives are truly in peril until (fingers crossed) the guns laws are as strong as we have here in the UK...NO GUNS ARE LEGAL. P.S. I'm a retired lady living in England with high hopes of lots of travels to the continent. If I find myself in France, I would LOVE to meet you.( If that's not possible, I totally understand.) I have dual citizenship through my Irish passport...born in Belfast...so not leaving anytime soon!
Hi Gabrielle, I definitely recommend staying up for the hearings (or taping them?). This first one was SO clear, articulate, factual (and fact-substantiated), moving, and infuriating. I dearly hope some folks who have been in lock-step with the Trump camp will be watching ... but I have a hard time even suggesting it to my family and friends who comprise that camp. Uuuuugggghhh HELP!
what bothers me the most about the jan 6th hearing is that the ones who need to hear are Fox News watchers and the network isn’t airing it…only bits of it
I really enjoyed the thread about the different ways Jewish thinkers have conceived of god. I’m particularly drawn to Spinoza’s view that everything is God and God is everything. I didn’t grow up feeling that I could share my questions about God and religion without upsetting my family.
I Should Have Stayed Up Late to Watch the January 6th Hearing

That Twitter thread on the various ways Jewish thinkers have conceived of the concept of God over time was so interesting- thanks for sharing
