Ejaculate Responsibly is an Instant New York Times Best Seller!!! Also: We're Going to Scotland!!
We’re Heading on a Family Trip!
Hello! I am writing to you from Beauvais Airport at 6:30pm. It’s a small regional airport (two tiny terminals) north of Paris, and about a 3-hour drive from our house. If you ever book bargain plane tickets within Europe — on RyanAir or EasyJet or any of the discount airlines — they often fly in and out of smaller airports like this one. It’s a small enough airport that there aren’t seats at the gate for every passenger, so picture us (Ben Blair, me, Oscar, Betty, and Flora June) in a circle, sitting on our suitcases near the duty-free shop.
This evening, our bargain $25 tickets are taking us to: Edinburgh, Scotland!
We have never been to Scotland before and we are SO EXCITED. It’s a short trip but we feel good about our plan: Stay in Edinburgh tonight (Wednesday), explore the city tomorrow (Thursday), drive halfway to Isle of Skye tomorrow evening, spend Friday at Isle of Skye, head back to Edinburgh on Saturday for more city exploration, with a stop at Blair Castle on the way. And then head to the airport on Sunday, mid-day.
If you happen to have some, I would love your recommendations! Favorite spots in Edinburgh? Things to eat? Places to visit? Shops to check out? Isle of Skye tips? Anything else?
For those of you who are curious: The kids are in the second week of their two-week fall “vacances” so they’re not missing school, and they’ll head back to class on Monday.
We planned this trip months ago, when we thought my book publish date was October 4th (it ended up being pushed to October 18th). We figured that the trip would be a month after the launch and imagined it would feel like a celebratory family vacation. And it does feel celebratory — but it also feels like we are smack-dab in the middle of the book launch, and that I am leaving at a very awkward time. Hah! My poor publicist has had to delay and reschedule media requests around this trip. But really, it’s a short trip, and I’ll be back to interviews on Monday, so I’m just going to enjoy the family time.
Did I Tell You Ejaculate Responsibly Made The New York Times Bestseller List?!!!!
Speaking of interviews and media requests, last week I wrote about 12 major media mentions of Ejaculate Responsibly so far. Since then there have been a few more.
-The biggest one? Ejaculate Responsibly is an instant New York Times Bestseller!!! It debuted at number two on the Non-fiction Paperback list. I had been warned by my publishing team that the list formulation has changed since my first book came out in 2015, and that it’s really hard to make the list these days, and that I shouldn’t expect it. So I was very surprised when I got the news!! It was really emotional. I found out around 10:30pm my time, and I couldn’t get to sleep until 3:00am because the adrenaline was pumping through me. I made a little video about what it was like to hear the news if you’d like to see.
-Another fun one: Yesterday, I was on The Special Report with Areva Martin on CNN! Areva is a brilliant interviewer and I had such a great time. You can watch the whole interview here.
-I received many DMs that over the weekend, Ejaculate Responsibly was included in the New York Times newsletter. (Thank you for telling me! I wouldn’t have known without your DMs and I’m glad I didn’t miss it.)
-Meg Conley also reviewed the book as part of a larger essay in her newsletter. “We still live in the power structure Aristotle’s wet dream built. The cracks in the separate spheres are caulked together with magic semen. (Mind the drips.)” The essay is excellent and I hope you get a chance to read it.
-The Deseret News wrote about my book last week — but the title was too risqué to mention in the article. Hah! (FYI: Utah has two major newspapers — The Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News. The Deseret News is owned by the LDS Church.)
That’s all for now. Feel free to comment on anything I mentioned above, or whatever’s on your mind.
kisses,
Gabrielle
I don't know if you guys are into horses but Skye is famous for its gorgeous PONIES. For a fun time you can book a riding tour through here: https://www.theisleofskyetrekkingcentre.co.uk/pony-trekking/
Have a fantastic time in Scotland! And, once again, CONGRATS on your book! It is the BEST!
