I did lose a toenail, but mine was painful b/x I dropped a frozen roast on it when I opened our freezer. So that meant tissue damage, which meant pain, but it was odd and interesting to watch the nail itself slough off. That part not painful at all. The nail that grew back was quite thick, and trimming it requires a bit more strength.

Looking forward to your thoughts on Ballerina Farm and creators vs journalists. I find both useful and helpful, but it all depends on depth of knowledge and experience.

Can you say more about the pilgrimage (logistics, what it was like, why it was meaningful)? Lovely to hear all the news you’ve caught us up on. 👍🏿👍🏾👍🏽👍🏼

Re: toenails -- Every time I go to Paris, the 2nd toe on the right foot loses a nail. Mine is still growing back so I know it's not time to go back yet. \_('>')_/

Do you think the book Oscar is writing would be OK for a 10 year old boy? My son loves fantasy and has made up his own universe complete with a huge number of creatures. He also enjoys writing short stories, so I'd love for him to see that this is something he could continue to work on if he wanted to!

When I went to Chicago which just happened to be at the same time as the DNC (YAY!!!!) we ended walking 25,000 steps and I think I'm going to lose my left pinky toe nail. It's purple now. By the way if anyone ever has the chance to go to Chicago in the summer, GO! There's flowers in huge pots downtown everywhere. Just gorgeous against all the outstanding architecture. The public transportation has to be among the best in the world. The weather was awesome when we were there but if it's really hot or raining you can Uber to the many world class museums.

It doesn't surprise me you lost your big toenail after the pilgramage. My brother lost a toenail from climbing/hiking. My twin sister has lost two toenails and a thumbnail. When we were about 5 she picked up a dumbbell weight and dropped it on her big toe. Later she lost a toenail next to the piggy toe. Then she sat in a doll buggy and caught her thumb in the folding mechanism and lost the thumbnail. Lastly, she got a fungus infection under a big toenail and it lifted. She cut out the part that was loose and had to let it grow out. My poor sissy! I have never lost a toenail or fingernail.

Oh, the journey of a lost toe nail. My two big toes are 7 monthes into regrowing after losing them to 3 days of 20,000 steps each at Disneyland. After day 1 I could feel the tenderness and really there was not stopping at that point. The nub stage was not fun but both are partially grown so there is hope for sandal sason next summer.

I’m so happy for you to have had so much quality family time this summer! How is Flora June feeling about being a virtual “only child”? She’s the only one of your kids that gets to truly experience it. I am an “only” and I always particularly enjoy seeing your crew doing group activities, but I’d wager this time in life will also be fun. I’m sure “The Three Blairs” will have some very special and unique adventures together too!
