Gabrielle, just FYI, last night the chair of the Nashville City Council tweeted his rage and pointed out that per the TN constitution, *they* were the legis body responsible for selecting a replacement for one of the districts w/o representation; and that they proposed to re-select the ousted rep for that district & send him back to the State House. The Shelby County Commission is the other body, and it is hoped they will follow suit.

And the bid to oust the White Lady failed by ONE VOTE. So you know there was just one person in that hall who couldn’t bring themselves to throw the White person out, but was fine with ousting the two Black men.

For your bathroom, I'd choose the second floor plan with the larger tub and only 1 sink. I think you'll get way more use out of a bigger tub. Smaller tubs are such a drag - we have one and I NEVER use it because it's just too small for me to relax comfortably. So fun following the small house reno!

I cannot begin to express my outrage at the news today, both in Tennessee and on the Supreme Court! So it is with great relief that I can express my opinion on the bathroom. How often do you use the bathtub and what is the water situation where you are building? Larger tubs take more water which in our desert southwest is a big issue. I actually love the second option visually because I think a freestanding tub is so pretty and I like that the toilet is tucked away in the corner out of sight of the door. If you are super neat and tidy, the first option is fine with the two sinks and vanities in view of the door. If your family tends to leave things on the counter, the second option might be better. And thanks Tracey Henley for the update on the situation in Tennessee.

If you move the bathroom door to the side wall (by the stairs), essentially rotating the layout clockwise, you can have your preferred layout AND a larger tub. Right now, there is a lot of "wasted" space in the center of the room. But rotating the layout and placing your fixtures along the longer walls and reducing the width of the center walkway area uses the square footage more efficiently!

I’m shaking with rage over TN and everything else in this shitstorm country so I am politely refraining from sharing my opinions on that and instead am choosing to focus on your bathroom question. My two cents is, go with the second option. Not only do you get more tub (definitely a big deal) but the tub ahead of you when you enter gives you a focal point - and a lovely one at that. Imagine walking by and seeing that tub just beckoning you to get in! Yes please!

Having just travelled en famille with teens, I can say having 2 sinks is really useful for all the lotions and potions and multi-step beauty routines that can tie up the sink and mirror. We only used the tub when the kids were little. I’m sure whatever you do, it will be beautiful!

Is tub bathing a big thing in France? Would it be outrageous to have a spacious shower space and no tub? Now that my kids are over age 10 nobody has the slightest interest in soaking in a tub at all. From my limited perspective, a bathtub would become a dark dusty wasted space, especially in a room with no window. My suggestion would be to ponder if it's necessary, or is having a more wide open space would feel better. Maybe this is a crazy idea to you. Also, why does there need to be a wall to 'hide" the toilet?

Also, if any of your readers or followers want to make an impact with their well deserved rage over the terrible situation in TN: you can call and not have to talk to anyone. You can just leave a message. They are comment lines; no person to talk to: TN Governor: 615 741 2001. TN Speaker: (615) 741-2343. They must be stopped.

Do you feel relived to not live in the US anymore? The stress and anger is almost unbearable...how backwards this country is becoming. As many others do, I seriously contemplate moving overseas.

I question how we will move forward with issues of gun reform, when here after 50 years, Roe V Wade was overturned. Republicans and white supremacists now feel emboldened to say and do whatever they please. How do we move forward when any gains made for women's rights, LGBTQ rights, rights for people of color, all seem to be dissipating?

Really love getting your newsletter in my inbox, thank you!

Wondering your thoughts on why we’re not calling the “situation” in TN white supremacy? Isn’t that what it is? Yes the actions displayed by the process and votes are racist and isn’t that perpetrated by the “system” of white supremacy? Does the word “racist” feel more palatable to people? Really been thinking about that today.

Add me to the list of people that are incandescent with rage at the Tennessee situation. What makes me feel a little bit better is that others, both D & R, are also livid at the situation.

Bathrooms: add me to team second option. I’m not much of a tub person, but when I am I’d prefer a big one. ☺️ Also, I’ll take extra counter space over the second sink always and forever.

I like the first design, because if this were my bathroom, I’d put a Japanese tub in there! You know those small, deep Japanese wooden tubs made of deliciously fragrant wood? Japanese folks soak in really hot water before dinner, and it’s divine. But that’s a quirky choice. A shower only for guests seems fine too.

Any possibility of putting a small window or two high up on a bathroom wall to let in some light? If so, I think the first plan would work better because a window above the bathtub would reflect in the vanity mirror and help it not feel so cavelike. Also, the first one feels more private to me, if the door open towards the tub. Just my thoughts.

Floor plan two, but flip the tub and shower so you can utilize that existing niche for shelving!

I like the idea of a larger shower and 2 sinks! I don’t take baths...there is a tub in the house if needed, but the primary bath has just a shower. I know you like baths, but since this is for guests, do they really need a tub? If you think yes, then I like the second layout, but truthfully, how often are guests going to use a tub, unless they are traveling with small children?

Not even going to address the Tennessee situation...I am at the boiling point. If I were at an earlier stage in my life (I am 72 next month) I would seriously think of moving abroad.

The center door is so spa like!!💖 You won't regret not seeing a toilet everytime you walk into the bath.

Farmer is a pig who's also a paid child killer. Going to where he had his engagement photos taken and scrolling down to the comments is good for a laugh at this child killers expense.
