Heading to Switzerland
We're meeting up with our cousins in the Alps!
We’re busy packing up and running errands today because we’re headed to Switzerland on Friday.
We’re meeting the Ferneys — my sister Jordan, my brother-in-law Paul, and their 3 kids — for a few days of hiking and exploring. Our daughter Olive is coming too. She has planned a 6-week trip across Europe and this will be the first leg of her adventure. Our niece Roxcy and her boyfriend Hakan, who live in Milan, are also coming. We’re so excited for cousin time in the Alps!
The weather at our destination looks like it will be in the 70s the whole time, which sounds lovely. We’re having another stretch of heatwave at the moment in France, and I’m sure the lower temperatures will feel like a relief. (In case you’re curious, we hired our friend Sieh to water our garden while we’re away.)
This will be our fourth trip to Switzerland. We took a summer trip there in August 2012 the first time we lived in France (here’s a report about that trip if you’d like to read), and we took a winter trip there in February 2020 when we moved back to France. Ben Blair and I also visited Switzerland in 1997 — it was pre-kids, when we were living in Greece.
Switzerland is one of Ben Blair’s very favorite places and we’re so excited about the trip!

My favorite place in the world! If you haven’t been to the Cailler chocolate factory I would highly recommend it. Also, you can’t go wrong with a stop in Gruyère. It’s idyllic and there’s the small town with Gruyère featured on all the menus. I lived in Sion and it has one of the oldest working organs in the world. The town has two short hikes to the top of the fort and cathedral that sit in the middle of town. The older part of town is charming. These are all Francophone places so that’ll make things easier. Enjoy!
Oh so fun! Just came back from a trip to Wengen, Lucerne, and Lugano. LOVED our hikes in and around Wengen! Also so much fun watching World Cup games in town and city centers!
