Betty's College Plans
The college application process in France and where Betty is headed in September.
The Last Day of High School
Today is the very last day of high school for Betty Blair. This morning, she had her “Grand Oral du Bac” which is the final portion of France’s big test called the Baccalaureate.
Betty took the Bac Général. It’s a multi-part test taken over two years. 40% of your Bac score comes from the grades you earned in your junior and senior year classes. The other 60% are composed of written and oral exams. During junior year, students take the French written exam and the French oral exam. During senior year, there are two specialized exams based on students’ interests, with topics like math, economics, literature, history, biology, earth science, geopolitics, music, etc. There’s also a philosophy written exam during senior year that every student takes, and a final oral exam based on one of a student’s specialities (the final oral exam is what Betty did today).
Here’s the breakdown of what each part contributes to the total score:
Junior & Senior Year Course Grades 40%
French Written Exam 5%
French Oral Exam 5%
Specialized Exams 32%
Philosophy Exam 8%
Final Oral Exam 10%
Betty will find out her final Bac score in July.
